Maya Rook lives in Brooklyn, where she pursues history, art, and writing. She works as the Programs Manager at the Shambhala Meditation Center of New York and holds graduate degrees in American Cultural History from Drew University and SUNY Albany. Maya specializes on the Donner Party. She was co-creator of and historical researcher for a play about these pioneers in 2014 and shortly thereafter traveled portions of their trail, visiting landmarks they stopped at along the way. She currently documents the daily travels of the Donner Party on Twitter  @DonnerDigest as she uses the unfolding of day-to-day experiences to bring stories of the past into the present.
